Basement Remodeling Tips

Basements are the favorite location for rooms, for games, hobbies, entertainment and laundry facilities. The term game room has been closely identified with the basement conversion and today this term includes practically all the informal entertainment done by the family.

The first step in remodeling your basement will be to wall off sections for heating and laundry purpose. Your wall and ceiling facings will probably consist of composition boards, tiles, plywood, or simulated woods and veneers

If you are fortunate enough to have plastered brick walls you can finish with white wash or any one of the special masonry paints. However if yours is the average basement, you will need work to make the basement suitable for all purposes use. In addition you will have to conceal plumbing, heating and wiring.

False walls and partitions are easily built of 2by4 wood studs to give you any of the dimensions you plan. They can also be used to cover any ugly objects as well as permitting the construction of shelving and built INS.

Check the basement carefully for dampness and leaks and use the special paints and mixtures to eliminate dampness.
In your selection of wallboards r wood facings choose facings with insulating and moisture resistant qualities.

A cement floor in good condition can be marked off in a flagstone or terrace effect. Various designs and patterns can be applied with the new basement floor paints available. When many of these new finishes are waxed they will give you basement floor a rich tiled effect. On concrete in contact with the earth as asphalt tie floor covering is recommended. Under the conditions if no dampness is present, you may use flooring materials such as wood, cork, linoleum or various tiles. Beleive it, recieve it and bring forth fruit.
