Shenck Job Corps CCC. Pisgah Forest, North Carolina

by Leon
(Raleigh, NC)

I was a Proud member of Job Corps Class of 1977, I can proudly say I received allot from the experience. I was there for one year, the first 6 months I was in there Heavy Equipment training program while waiting for an opening in the Union Carpentry program. During the one year i was there I received my GED, my first year apprenticeship certificate and enough experience with the heavy equipment training that I could be on a job in a quarry loading trucks or operating a backhoe somewhere, I also could have been placed a some faraway place in the union carpentry program. Instead I choose to stay in North Carolina my home state. I stayed in western North Carolina for several years. Gained some valuable experience then around 1980 the work slowed down there and I moved back to my hometown Raleigh, North Carolina. Found work as a Interior Trim Carpenter and in 1983 started my own Business, L B Construction Co.
Still in business today, surviving, with new home construction nearly stopped. A year ago I was diagnosed with GBS Guillain-Barre syndrome which is a neurological disorder that effects the insulation that surrounds your nerves this was a nightmare to me for about 10 months. I am happy to say I am back doing what I love and that's Woodworking. If you get a chance visit my web site bestwoodenthings.com

Thanks for taking the time to read my story
Regards, Leon
P.S. If possible I would like to trade links!
